I Am Talented: Celebrating Mother Tongue Day at GHS Buea Rural with the Noela Lyonga Foundation
The vibrant sounds of diverse languages filled the air at Government High School Buea Rural (GHS Buea Rural) in Bokova. It wasn’t just another school day; it was a celebration of culture, identity, and the power of language—Mother Tongue Day! And this year, the Love For Humanity Association joined forces with the Noela Lyonga Foundation to make the celebration even more special with our “I Am Talented” initiative.
Mother Tongue Day is a global celebration of linguistic diversity, recognizing the importance of preserving and promoting indigenous languages. We believe that language is an integral part of who we are, shaping our thoughts, our traditions, and our connection to our heritage. This year, we wanted to do more than just acknowledge the day; we wanted to create a platform for students to express themselves, showcase their talents, and celebrate the richness of their mother tongues.

Our partnership with the Noela Lyonga Foundation was key to the success of this event. Together, we organized a day filled with exciting activities, designed to engage students and highlight their unique talents. The “I Am Talented” initiative was all about empowering students to embrace their linguistic heritage and use it as a tool for creative expression.
The day kicked off with a vibrant display of cultural performances. Students took to the stage, showcasing traditional dances, storytelling, and musical performances, all delivered in their mother tongues. The energy was infectious, and the pride in their heritage was palpable. It was a beautiful reminder of the diversity and richness of the cultures represented at GHS Buea Rural.
Beyond the performances, we also organized interactive workshops where students could explore different aspects of their mother tongues. From poetry writing to traditional storytelling, these workshops provided a space for students to delve deeper into their linguistic heritage and discover new ways to express themselves. The Noela Lyonga Foundation’s expertise in community engagement was invaluable in creating these engaging and impactful sessions.
The “I Am Talented” initiative wasn’t just about celebrating the past; it was also about investing in the future. We believe that by empowering students to connect with their mother tongues, we are equipping them with a powerful tool for self-expression, cultural preservation, and personal growth.
The day concluded with a sense of unity and shared appreciation for the diverse languages spoken at GHS Buea Rural. It was a powerful reminder that our mother tongues are not just a means of communication; they are a vital part of our identity and our connection to our communities.

We are incredibly grateful to the Noela Lyonga Foundation for their partnership in making this event a success. Together, we were able to create a memorable and impactful celebration of Mother Tongue Day, empowering students to embrace their linguistic heritage and showcase their talents. We look forward to continuing our collaboration in the future to support education and cultural preservation.
